Inspiration

I am inspired by my grandchildren and the joy they bring into my life, by children romping in the summer sun, a shadow clinging to a flower petal and the endless ebb and flow of the ocean. Through the eye of my camera I am able to capture a fleeting moment in time and recreate it in watercolor.

Ben and Me

When a local Catholic Church and rectory closed, a retired nun and her faithful companion, Ben, her poodle, had to find alternative housing.

Touched by this event, I wanted to capture a remembrance in watercolor for all to share of Sister Julia, Ben and the home they shared. Thus the painting Ben and Me was born.

Here's looking at you, Babe

My obsession with painting close-ups was my inspiration for this painting. It was painted on a half sheet Windsor Newton hot press paper. One look at the finished painting and, yes, the eye had it all.

Thus "Here's looking at you, babe" was born. I'm looking forward to more photo sessions with cows.

Next, I would like to paint a close-up of a tail and hind legs, the title could be "Tall Tales". What do you think about a close-up painting of a cow's utters? "Utterly Devine" sounds like a great title to me.

Hillary's Haven

My neighbors asked me to paint a watercolor of their daughter Kathleen's home on Cape Cod.

After reviewing several photos of their home, I became inspired while viewing one with shadows dancing over the landscape.

I also became inspired to make Christmas cards of their home. Imagine their surprise when Kathleen and her husband Neil opened the card and saw their home.

Hillary is the name of their precious dog, therefore, "Hillary's Haven."

The Red Pail

Our annual trip to Maine was one of the highlights of our year. We always hung out at Gooserocks Beach, located in the town of Kennebunk and I always made sure my trusty camera was by my side.

Digging to China

My inspiration for both paintings was children romping in the water, creating fabulous sand castles and just plain having fun in the summer sun.

Honey "Moo" n

OMG, I love painting cows. They are one of my favorite inspirations. Honey "Moo" n was created after several weeks of painting on a farm in a hilltop town. I snapped several photos of cows and decided to paint two of them together.

Were they on their honeymoon? God, I don't know. The painting was entered in a national contest and received an honorable mention award.

Twilight Tango

Flowers - Close-ups of white flowers are one of my favorite subjects to paint. When I spot an abstract shape clinging to a flower petal, I am inspired to paint it.

One summer day, I purchased radishes from a farmers market. While painting them on Winsor Newton hot press paper, their roots became by inspiration for the title of the painting. Thus, "Twilight Tango" was born.

As you can see, my paintings are born from many different inspirations. I love the challenge of watercolor and look forward to many more adventures into this wonderful world of watercolor.
