David Allen

Dr. David Allen died Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at home in Eliot, ME. Born in York, ME, May 15, 1942, his long career of government service and consulting in the private sector was distinguished with several honors, including the Career Intelligence Medal and the Balkans Service Medal during his 27-year tenure at the Central Intelligence Agency.

Following his retirement, he returned to the Massachusetts Berkshires, where he had spent most of his youth, and built a house at the base of Mount Greylock.

His maternal family hailed from Bar Harbor, ME, and in 2017, he finally became a bona fide Maine resident when he moved to Eliot, ME, a few miles from where he was born in York, ME.

An accomplished choral singer, radio ham operator, master of genealogical research and record keeping, he became an avid birdwatcher later in life - and the devoted companion to Rocket Man, a senior rescue chihuahua who became David’s ‘manager’ and guardian through the last months and years of David’s life.

He will be greatly missed by his domestic partner Pamela Wildes and Rocket Man of Eliot, ME, four well-loved children including Torrie Taj, Heather Rothman, Rebecca Allen-Oleet, and Patrick Allen, sister Susan Potter, special friend Robin Lee Perry, six grandchildren, and a large extended family which included nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial service will be scheduled for mid-October in York, ME on a day/time TBD..

Donations in his memory may be made to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (159 Sapsucker Woods Rd. Ithaca, NY 14850), Protectors of Animals, (144 Main St, East Hartford, CT 06118), The National Parkinson Disease Association (PO Box 61420, Staten Island, NY10306) or Hospice of Southern Maine, (390 US-1, Scarborough, ME 04074).
